 There are people who are categorized as thrill seekers and there are those who simply enjoy a hobby that most would consider dangerous; an act that could take ones life. Even if you consider yourself a veteran, there are several steps you should take before embarking on your adventurous journey. These hobbies can range anywhere from scuba diving, sky diving, white water rafting, rock climbing, and mountain climbing.

Getting enough rest:
Studies have shown that getting the appropriate amount of sleep increases ones awareness level, ability to process complex decisions, and allows your body to fully recover from the previous day. If you plan on embarking on a lengthy climb or decide to go rafting, it's essential that you keep your mind at it's peak performance. While being athletic and healthy play a big role in your overall safety, all that effort goes to waste when you pursue dangerous hobbies with a lack of sleep. Mountain climbers will face less oxygen as they ascend to higher elevations, resulting in less oxygen reaching the brain. A combination of low oxygen and a lack of sleep is simply asking for death.

Stay hydrated:
You need to bring sufficient amounts of water to keep yourself hydrated. Athletes who disregard this important step may face nausea, fatigue, dizziness, muscle cramps, vomiting, a lack of sweat, and a fast heart beat (faster than normal). Our body is composed of 50-60% water, in our blood stream its 92% water. You are likely going to sweat, and it's vital that you replenish your system with water as you carry out your activity. Water in our system helps carry the blood throughout our body, which is important for keeping ourselves energized during demanding activities. The importance of water simply can't be swayed. To put this into perspective, the average human can go weeks or even a month without food, but most people can't go without water for more than a couple of days.

Proper nutrition:
 Experts say that as time goes on, the amount of energy consumption increases as the amount of fatigue increases. This is a dangerous combination because facing fatigue increases the possibility of injuries or worse, fatality in more dangerous hobbies. NEVER pursue your hobby on a low stomach. Just because you may consider yourself an expert, your body will quickly shut you down once all its energy resources have been depleted. This and a combination of good hydration will keep your body energized and fueled.

Proper training:
All of the steps previously listed go to waste if you choose to be wreckless and try to go rafting without proper training and knowledge. This can and should include watching the weather before embarking out on your activity, checking your equipment for any flaws, and making sure your in good shape. While you can pursue some hobbies without being in shape, it greatly increases your chances of facing fatigue, which again can increase your chances of injuring yourself. If you plan on scuba diving or mountain climbing and your new, it's essential you consult yourself with an expert or even better, bring an expert with you to guide you through your adventure.
